Karlyn Holloway lives in Cabot, Arkansas, with her husband and Lucy her golden retreiver. She graduated from A.S.U. Beebe with an associate degree in art. She furthered her education at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Karlyn is an award-winning national and international artist. She is a signature member of the Arkansas League of Artists and Mid-Southern watercolorists. Her work can be seen across the U.S. and Europe.
How and when did you start creating art?
I started drawing probably about 9 years old. Drawing the models from the newspaper.
What media and genres do you work in?
I work in oil, watercolor and graphite and charcoal.
Who or what are your influences?
I’m drawn to realism. I have been influenced by the early illustrators. Maxfield Parish, Norman Rockwell and Arthur Rackham.
What was your inspiration for
She Left the Pearls
?This is part of a series of books. I was trying to encourage reading and seeing the magic in books. Real books not a Kindle.
Describe your creative process?
It all starts with a concept, a lot of the time its a nudge from the Lord. Next the drawing and deciding what medium would work best. I tend to do things different each time.
What are you working on currently?
I’m currently working on a series of hands with quilts and still life.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
I hope to someday have a solo show with my quilt paintings.
