4-day studio workshop with Stephanie Metz: August 15 - August 18, 2025. Willow Pond SLO is an artist retreat on the Central Coast of California. We provide multidisciplinary workshops year-round for and by artists from all over the world. This artist workshop samples multiple ways to take three-dimensional needle felting to the next level. The 4-day tuition fee is $1014 and includes a chef-prepared lunch daily. Stephanie Metz is a full-time Bay Area artist who incorporates techniques from other sculpture traditions (working in clay, carving stone, and joining metal) to reframe needle felting. Her tactile process of “wool drawings” and fiber sculptures involves hand stitching thick industrial felt and repetitive needle felting of wool fibers into solid masses. Class time (9 a.m.-5 pm) will include daily demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and feedback, and lots of hands-on work time. The goal of the class is to learn new techniques for creative problem-solving, so the focus is on trying things out rather than completing specific projects. However, you can bring your own in-progress work for specific help and feedback. Applicants can book directly on our website.
