Kathy Linden
South Florida
I am a college grad with a degree in Art. My goal was to become a medical illustrator. Studying the human form intensely and painting it was my focus for years.
How and when did you start creating art?
I never remember not drawing or coloring with elementary tools. It was always a passion.
What media and genres do you work in?
I currently use acrylics and have become a very figurative painter. Color is what defines my work.
Who or what are your influences?
There are many fine artists, but to name a few Xenia Hausner, Georgia O’keefe, Picasso, and Dali.
My inspiration comes from the world around me. Nothing is static; energy abounds. I love to fill a canvas with texture and color. I love breaking “the rules”. My applications on any substrate are applied with aggressive intent!
Describe your creative process?
Going back to my early days, there is always a sense of realism in my work. I veer off though, and never know how a work will end up, as it never appears the way I began. I apply layer upon layer of color, sometimes with palette knives and sometimes just scrubbing in with my hands, with cloths or brushes. When I am satisfied, I then resort to adding what will be the focus of the work.
What are you working on currently?
Currently I am immersed in a series of works for a show I will be doing in November.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
My goals are always the same. First and foremost to continually improve my technique and (on a more grandiose note) to be able to have my work seen everywhere!
Where can people view/purchase your work (gallery, website, etc)?
I am currently represented by The Heart of Delray Gallery (Delray Beach, Florida) where several of my larger pieces can be viewed. I do have a website: www.kathyLstudio.net and I also can be found on social media (Instagram , Facebook and Twitter ).
