 Workshops

About the Program: In this one-week intensive, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Bill Morrison will lead up to 10 students in creating short, personal films. Beginning with capturing their experiences in Craft 101 through first-person smartphone footage, participants will work closely with Morrison to craft 5–7 minute pieces. This hands-on workshop offers a deep dive into Morrison’s distinctive storytelling and editing process, emphasizing individual perspective and creative voice. The program culminates in a public screening of the completed works. Participants must bring their own laptops with pre-installed editing software and possess a working knowledge of importing, cutting, and exporting footage. ALN will provide viewing and screening spaces, though no additional studio equipment is available. About the Program Director: Bill Morrison is renowned for his fusion of archival film with contemporary music. His acclaimed works include Decasia, selected for the Library of Congress' National Film Registry, and collaborations with composers like Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, and Steve Reich. His films are in collections at MoMA and the EYE Filmmuseum, and he’s received honors including Guggenheim and Alpert Awards. Morrison has been featured in retrospectives worldwide and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2025, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Incident (2024).
