Art Scene West - The Salon Series I

In 1667, the Académie des Beaux-Arts opened its doors to the world and declared, in no uncertain terms, what art was — and what it wasn't. For over 200 years, the Paris Salon became the most powerful stage in the Western art world, its high walls stacked floor to ceiling with paintings, its acceptance was career-making, its rejection… devastating. Yet the irony that unfolded would see the beginnings of what celebrated contemporary art would come to be. The artists the Salon turned away — Monet, Cézanne, Pissarro — went on to inspire and ignite the movements that would define modern art forever. In trying to draw the boundaries of art, the Salon accidentally erased them. In honor of its long standing history, contribution, and irony, Art Scene West gallery presents The Salon Series — a three-part exhibition giving a prestigious stage to artists of all styles and mediums, from anywhere in the world. Hosted inside our gallery in San Diego, California, this show exposes artworks to local and vast tourist populations visiting year around. This open call aims to gather the expansion of contemporary art, from traditional to experimental, to be joined on the same curated wall. Every style welcome. Every artist respected.
