Manifest - PASTEL: A Call for Works Made Of or About Pastel
 Exhibitions

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works that explore pastel as a material and/or color. Pastel is an old medium, colored dust bound into paste, bridging the gap between painting and drawing. Its brilliant hues are counter-balanced by the application of soft, dusty, marks layered in touches of line and plane. The color range takes its name from the material. “Pastels” are the soft hues of springtime and dyed eggs; they are high-key and muted, colors for blunted feelings and unfocused edges, harmonizing, calming, restful. Pastels of all varieties are capable of creating rich, intense tones, and “pastel” coloring can be made with a variety of media, however they share a commonality born from their earliest use. $45 for up to three entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry. Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.
