Planetarium explores the point where everyday reality meets surreal, dreamlike space, imagining a future in which humanity has moved beyond Earth and adapted to life among the stars. Throughout the work, Lee's figures are concealed behind astronaut visors, removing visible markers of age, nationality, culture and social standing, leaving each figure to exist simply as a human being. "The astronaut is you, me, and everyone else," says Lee. The exhibition considers how humanity's differences may appear less significant when viewed against the vastness of the universe. As the figures look outward, the work encourages viewers to reflect on the qualities and experiences that connect us. Adriana Lee is a Korean artist based in Toronto. She graduated from OCAD University with a BFA in Drawing & Painting and has participated in exhibitions in Canada, Italy and Seoul. Working primarily in acrylic and watercolour, Lee explores the tension between the ideal and the real through dreamlike imagery, often reinterpreting everyday landscapes and scenes from memory to blur the boundary between reality and dreams.
