The Chateau Gallery - Call for Entries: Degenerate
In 1937, The Degenerate Art exhibition (Die Ausstellung "Entartete Kunst") was conceived and held in Nazi Germany, where party propagandists portrayed, mocked, and vilified the works of renowned modern artists as evidence of criminality and deviance. Nevertheless, the event was more popular with spectators than the accompanying state-sponsored exhibition intended to display the more classical type of art advocated by the regime. In the contemporary context, one could suspect a passionate photographer possesses the means, motive, and opportunity to capture the debaucherous image. What is your interpretation of "degenerate," and how does your work oppose the blasé mainstream narrative preferred by the state and status quo?
