Call for ILLINOIS Artists: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

A $471,500 commission at Illini Hall on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus is open to all professional artists the live and work in ILLINOIS. The new facility will be a six-story, 143,000-square-foot building and will house the departments of mathematics and statistics. The artwork will be the atrium area, emphasizing the connections between learning and research across the departments. The area includes the wall and ceiling area of the entire four-story space. The artwork will activate the area with views of collaboration, gathering areas, offices, and classrooms on the floors above. The artwork will have to be light weight as the substrate for mounting the artwork are steel-stud gypsum board walls. Numbers and their physical expressions have inherent beauty. For this project the Committee would like artwork that explores this beauty in a compelling way that evokes the power of numbers, mathematics, statistics and their place in our world.
