As the sun sets, a whole new world of photographic opportunities presents itself. Buildings, streets and time lapse take on a different light at night. But don't stop there- ever hear of "Night life"? Carnivals? Animals? People? Theater? There is a voyeuristic feel to night images, the viewer senses that they are observing life from the shadows. Urban lights create high drama - colors intensify and shadows loom. In the country, things become scary and still. Is there just a hint of the sunset left? Time lapse can create fantastic swirls of lights creating abstract compositions. Show us what your camera sees "After Dark".
Juror Tom Paiva is a professional, freelance photographer based in California where he has had his business for over 15 years. He specializes in large format photography of industrial and maritime settings, as well as architecture and interiors. Tom has over 70 cover images for various Trade Magazines to his credit. His long term passion is night photography and he loves to create images of urban settings and moonlit landscapes on film. He was a co-founder of The Nocturnes, a group of night photographers who had a landmark exhibit in San Francisco in 1991.
The Vermont Photo Space Gallery gives photographers the opportunity to have their work evaluated by a qualified juror for display in our Vermont gallery with very little expense or hassle. We provide free archival quality matting and framing of accepted entries for each of our exhibitions, subject to standard sizes. Photographers retain the rights to their work and set their own prices for sale in the gallery.

Call For Entry - Alternatives: Where Process is Paramount,Mpls Photo Center, Juror Keith Taylor, Su

In this age of digital photography, more and more photographers are seeking an alternative. This return to labor and craftsmanship resists the quick-fix of inkjet technology and values something much more satisfying and elusive. The best examples are, first and foremost, great photographs. Yet, these are photographs with a richer tale to tell - one that shows the mark of the maker, and the effects of light on a hand-coated surface. These are not just images, they are objects.A call for all things alternative with occasional forays into future processes. This call focuses less on the camera, albeit, Pinhole, Holga, traditional plate, film or digital, but exclusively on the final (non-silver) process. Poloroid Transfers, Gum Dichromate, Platinum, Palladium, Tintype, Albumen, Cyanotype, VanDyke, Bromoil Printing, Wet Plate Collodion, Carbon Printing, Bromoil Printing, Calotype Paper Negative, Salted Paper Printing, Photoshop Manipulation and Inkjet Prints. No silver process will be allowed. Submissions must be created through the accepted processes previously noted, whether created analog or digital in the wet or dry darkrooms. Creativity in process is paramount to the jurors selected images. Almost anything goes, though, Keith Taylor, the juror reserves the right to decide what alternative means.
