1650 Gallery is hosting the juried photography exhibition WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT? PHOTOS FROM THE WORLD OF CATS. Cats… love 'em or hate 'em, they surround us. They rule our world with a furry sharp-clawed fist. They allow us to live with them -- as long as we abide by their rules. Step out of line, and you will feel their wrath. So… what's a human to do? PHOTOGRAPH THEM, of course! That's right, 1650 Gallery is hosting a juried photo exhibition of the love 'em or leave 'em world of cats. While we're thinking mostly of Felis Domestica (the common house cat), if you have shots of lions, tigers, panthers, leapords or any of the big cats, they work too! Whether it's cute kitties or prowling hunters, farm cat or city kitty -- if it's feline-based you're good to go. We're even looking for girls in cat suits! So what's new, pussycat? This month 1650 investigates the fascinating world of this complex and fascinating creature… THE CAT, as only you can show it. So don't pussy out -- grab your camera and get to work!

PCPC's Juried Art Show is now accepting registration in all categories of visual arts for the March show "The Passion and The Promise." Go to the PCPC Arts Festival website or facebook page to learn more, download rules, and register. Cash prizes for best of theme and people's choice. There is no fee unless your work is selected for delivery on February 25th. $35 for first accepted work, additional $10 for second accepted work (in a different theme). Guest Juror is Bruce Herman, international artist, professor and Lothlórien Distinguished Chair of Fine Arts at Gordon College. Show dates are March 24 - April 1, 2012. Proceeds go to innercity arts education in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Gregory Wolfe, editor and publisher of IMAGE JOURNAL, will kick-off the season with his presentation "Saying It without Saying It: How to Talk about Art (and Faith)" on January 24 at 7:00 pm at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas. The Beverly Hills Art Show is seeking artists to participate in the upcoming May 19th and 20th art event; the deadline to file an application is February 14th. This show, nearly 40 years old, is held in the center of Beverly Hills along four historic garden blocks. It attracts over 40,000 art lovers from the affluent west side of Los Angeles and adjacent areas, along with regional art dealers, and even out-of-state patrons who come to town specifically for this event.The atmostphere is collegial, casual, friendly and fun; yet the outdoor show caters to serious art shoppers, via an extensive advertising campaign. It is consistently highly rated by the major national publications that review outdoor art events across the country.Any type of subject matter will be considered by the jury. A special exhibit, within the overall event, will be Landscape and the Los Angeles Imagination. If you are an artist whose work falls within this realm, please consider applying and becoming a featured artist.Nearly 250 artists will be accepted. Eugene Smith with recent discoveries such as Vivian Maier and Frank Oscar Larson adding to a long list of great photographers.Many of the scenes captured by practitioners of this art, with the possible exception of war and extreme sports documentary, pass before us every day, but we do not see. This exhibit is dedicated to those who strive to see, realize and then manifest vision and moment into an image so that we can all see what is right in front of us or inaccessible in some other way. Showing us the remarkable moments that make up the, often unconscious, Human Experience.Juror: Nikos EconomopoulosNikos Economopoulos began his photography career inn 1988 with a long-term project in Greece and Turkey. He photographed whatever he came across on his daily walks: street scenes, public gatherings, solitary meanderers, or deserted landscapes. In 1990 After joining Magnum Economopoulos' photographs began to appear in newspapers and magazines worldwide. In the same year he started to take photographs in Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and the former Yugoslavia, investigating the territorial, ethnic and religious tensions of the region, as well as the endurance of traditional social and religious rites. This work earned him the Mother Jones Award in 1992.
