Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) is happy to announce a group exhibition open call "Expressionist Photography". Expressionist Photography, as a photographic style, typically originates from the artist's subjective emotions and inner experiences, emphasizing the portrayal of inner feelings, states of mind, and psychological landscapes through images rather than merely adhering to objective reality. This style of photography often employs exaggerated lighting effects, unconventional compositions, stark contrasts in tones, or techniques such as blurring and distortion to convey an emotional experience that transcends reality, resulting in a powerful visual impact. In the history of photography, early expressionist tendencies can be traced back to the early 20th century, when German Expressionist cinema influenced photography. In contemporary photography, many artists also adopt expressionist techniques. We invite artists from around the world who create in this style to participate in the exhibition, using the language of the lens to break away from direct representations of reality, showcasing individualized emotional expression and visual tension.
