I have been working in mixed media for the past 20 years. I love to experiment with new materials and techniques. The inspiration for my work originated in my experience as a restorer in a museum.
How and when did you start creating art?
I had some serious health issues in my youth and I became involved in many creative activities and hobbies that I could work on when I was confined to my bed.
What media and genres do you work in?
I have worked as a potter a carver painting in watercolors oils and acrylics.
Who or what are your influences?
C M Russell
What was your inspiration for Modern Joseph?
This piece Modern Joseph is my idea of what Joseph of the coat of many colors in the Bible might look like in todays modern world. The patterns on his jacket are all bits of recycled materials that I hope represent the variety of interests in his personality. I think that he is surprised at what he sees around him.
Describe your creative process?
I draw my inspiration from looking though old National Geographic Magazines and tearing out pages with colors and textures. I will also varnish fabrics in preparation for their use in the project. I will then create a background with acrylic paint on a canvas board. All of this preparation is done intuitively
What are you working on currently?
I am presently working on a Nature Calendar with images of flowers, beetles, buttterflies, frogs and turtles. This will take the shape of a large circle reminiscent of The famous Aztec Calendar.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
I want to keep exploring new ideas always testing the limits of what I am able to achieve.
