Pepper Pepper

Pepper Pepper was born in Miami, Florida. Because of health issues during his mother's pregnancy, he was born blind. After numerous surgeries during childhood, his vision is nearly 20/20 (with contacts). As a teenager, Pepper studied art at Milan School of Art and at several art workshops and lectures. In college he furthered his art and photography studies and started developing his unique style. His artistic resume includes oils, acrylics, photography, and mixed-media artwork. His experiences include graphic artist, fashion photographer, public relations, marketing consultant, and art auction organizer. Throughout his career, Pepper has won awards for his art and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His art can be found in several national and international private and corporate collections. Aside from his art, Pepper is most proud of having won a humanitarian award and his contributions to organizations helping the blind.
How and when did you start creating art?
started understanding and creating art soon after gaining sight. I became fascinated by colors and shapes and their relationship to each other. In high school, I became more involved in creating a unique style. In Art School and college I was exposed to different art forms, mediums, and genres. This helped me develop I grew my “art legs”. This has been the foundation for all my work.
What media and genres do you work in?
I work in oils, acrylics, mixed-media, and photography. But the bulk of my work is mixed-media.
Who or what are your influences?
I am very much influenced by Georgia O’Keefe and Robert Parkeharrison
"Broken Wings" - I had in mind an image of someone lost in the world; someone searching for an identity. I wanted to create an image that conveyed to the viewer that this was someone with a fractured existence.
Describe your creative process?
I walk many roads to get to get to the same solutions. However, the most common is a layered process. I layer several images together and afterwards paint over them with ink, acrylics, or oils.
What are you working on currently?
I am working on a series of abstracts all based on topographical maps.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
I will be moving to Italy in the next few years and I hope to become a “true” international artist.
